Old Northside

Old Northside is Indianapolis's Victorian mansion district — wide, tree-lined streets lined with the homes wealthy Indianapolis families built at the turn of the 20th century, many now beautifully restored. It sits just north of downtown, an easy walk or bike ride to Mass Ave and the Cultural Trail, and it draws buyers who want architectural grandeur and don't mind paying for the upkeep that comes with it. It's one of the more elegant, established near-downtown addresses in the city.

The mansions that define this neighborhood come with mansion-sized maintenance and utility costs, and buyers should budget for that rather than treating the price tag as the full picture. That said, values have held up consistently well given the location and the scarcity of comparable historic housing stock this close to downtown — this is a neighborhood where the premium is tied to something real, not just reputation.

Good to Know

Many of the mansions here were built by the same families whose names are still on Indianapolis parks, streets, and institutions today.
